Privacy trees and bushes

This past weekend was hard labor and driving around to pick up trees and bushes and mulch. We can only fit two trees/shrubs in the Subaru at a time so we made a few trips out. I finally finished planting the privacy shrubs along the long side of the fence facing the street. The before pictures really make me feel like I’m (slowly) making progress.

Before in 2016
After my husband put up the fence in March 2017.

Last year I planted two Christmas Jewel® holly shrubs and two Dragon Lady Holly shrubs. I planted them in September which was a little late in the year for them to get settled in for the winter and they ended up with some frost burn. They are a little scraggly but starting to fill in a bit more.

The two Dragon Lady holly shrubs I planted in June 2017.
I added a Golden Leyland Cypress between the two holly shrubs in September 2017.

I needed a male holly and on my quest to find one I came back with a very scraggly Blue Prince holly that I got for free. I went to my local garden center and the owner told me that they had a rough winter and he couldn’t sell one to me so he gave it to me!

You can almost see the Blue Prince holly shrub all the way to the right but to the left of the Christmas Jewel®. I prepped this area on Saturday and then dug holes and planted on Sunday. May 2018.

From left to right: Dragon Lady Holly, Blue Ice Arizona Cypress, Emerald Green Arborvitae, two American Pillar Arborvitae, Blue Prince Holly and Christmas Jewel® Holly. Far end: Christmas Jewel® Holly, Golden Leyland Cypress and Dragon Lady Holly.

You’ve really transformed that area of fence. I can’t wait to see it in person!

It looks great! I like how you specifically identify each plant. That is very helpful to those who are looking for trees or shrubs that may work in their own yard
